As a fairly new Coloradian, I’m beginning the process of acquiring all of the Colorado must-haves, like hiking boots, a good sized backpack, and of course, skis.
Now, I’ve been skiing for the past 5ish years. I didn’t grow up skiing, and I’ve never owned a pair of skis before. So now that I have some of the best mountains at my fingertips, you best bet I’m buying a pair of skis before the season really gets going. For those that ski, you know that you don’t just buy two skis. You have to buy the skis, boots, bindings, polls, helmet, goggles, mask, and any other accessories you may want. I luckily already have a helmet, goggles, and mask, but everything else I need to buy soon.
Ultimately, I know that I’m going to walk into a physical store to get fitted for everything, since skis have to be nice and snug. But that wasn’t going to stop me from doing research online. I wanted to know things like how long my skis should be for my height, what size boot I should get, and how I can get a ski boot that doesn’t murder my feet.
Am I a little over dramatic? Maybe. But after 5 years of wearing rental boots, finding a comfortable boot is a big deal to me.
So as I Googled how to find the right ski boot, I was overwhelmed with ads and retail websites trying to sell me their ski boots. But then I saw a picture, a video thumbnail more accurately, that said “How to Choose Ski Boots”. My eyes lit up! Finally, someone who’s trying to help me!
Immediately, I clicked on the link, and it brought me to a blog page. The blog belongs to a retailer called Evo. The blog was very clear in its headline to ensure me that I was in the right place, and without scrolling down, the video was ready to be played.
The video was simple. It was an FAQ style video with a woman on camera that explained each component of a ski boot, and how that translated to someone’s personal preferences. And then they had a whole blog written up underneath the video with tech specs, charts, and tons of detail about each component in a pair of ski boots.
This was literally the perfect experience for me in the moment. I was so frustrated trying to find answers on Google, only to be met with advertisements and retailers’ sales pages. Quite frankly, I didn’t want to read anything. I just wanted to click play on that video, sit back, and relax. And Evo allowed me to do just that.
How do you think I feel about Evo as a company? Yeah, you guessed correctly, they are my new favorite ski retailer. That’s because I feel like they care about me. I get the feeling that they want me to find the perfect pair of skies, boots, bindings, and whatever else I need. And perfect doesn’t mean most expensive, either. They seem to be pretty impartial to recommending equipment for skiers and snowboarders of different skill levels. I very much appreciate that, because I definitely fall (a lot) in the beginner category!
So is this whole blog post just about how awesome Evo is for making an information video that helped me make a better buying decision? Yes. That’s exactly what this post is.
Thanks Evo!
Here’s the link to the blog post they made on ski boots. If you are in need of any ski or snowboarding equipment, I think you’ll really enjoy them!

There’s a misconception that if you make a video, it has a specific lifespan. Once your video is 6 (or any made up number) months old, then it becomes stale and no one will watch it. That’s bullshit. Good video content, like wine, films, books, video games, etc. will only get better with age. Now,…
